Mother,
I want to talk about love.
It’s a word you throw around a lot in this household but I’m not sure you know what it means.
In particular, we need to discuss what “unconditional love” means . I’d like to remind you how often you’ve said your love for me is “unconditional.”
Well, I’ve got to say, your love seemed pretty bloody conditional at 3am this morning. I was not feeling cherished and adored.
What I was feeling was quite a bit of attitude.
When you love someone unconditionally, you should be much more excited to see them. You should be over the moon that they want to spend all their time with you.
Even if that time is the middle of the night and you are in the deepest sleep you’ve had in a long time.
You should be grateful.
You should be thrilled I want to see you.
You should not sigh and loud-whisper at me (passive aggressive much?).
Do you remember when I first said “Mumma” to you? How happy you were? I got lots and lots of the hand clapping.
There was absolutely zero of the hand clapping for the loud and repeated “Mummas” last night. Make up your mind woman.
Look, I forgive you. I know you’re tired. I still love you. Unconditionally (see how I did that?).
Try harder.
Love,
Little Thud.

Hi! I came over here from Movita’s gingerbread competition and think your site is hilarious. I love this post. The second picture, of Little Thud looking up at the camera is hilarious given the context. Can’t wait to read more!
