There’s a huge community of mums who call themselves Queens. It’s a lovely sentiment and I’m happy it makes them feel valued, cherished and empowered… but it’s not the right title for me.
I’m not a Queen.
Queens don’t earn that title. It’s not a skill they’ve worked on, it’s just something they’re given or born into. Maybe, once upon a time, a Queen was a formidable figure but in 2018, it’s quite a passive role, holding little decision making power or influence (I still love you, Liz ).
So I don’t feel that calling myself a Queen really honours the job of being a mum.
I’m not Queen… I’m a BOSS.
Not a boss mama, a boss bitch or a boss lady; there’s no need to qualify it or feminise it. I’m a straight-up B.O.S.S.
I’ve earned my title. I’ve worked hard for it. I have real skills.
I’m the COO and the CEO. I’m head of HR and I’m the head of marketing. I run all of the departments. All of them.
I’m in charge. I work all of the hours. I make all of the decisions – and some of them are literally life or death.
Some people dismiss mums. Whether they’re stay-at-home or working mums, it doesn’t seem to matter, you’re “just a mum.”
Ha! Mate, I’ve got a masters degree, I’ve worked in three different industries for some of this nation’s largest companies.
Nothing has been harder than this. And I’m doing it LIKE A BOSS.
I think we’re all bosses.
P.S and the only time I’d call my daughter a princess is when she’s acting like a total princess
