To give you a break from the never ending WORDS that I heap on you from these pages, I’ve joined a photography circle. Like a quilting circle without the quilting. And we don’t meet up. Or even see each other ever. So, nothing at all like a quilting circle.
The idea is that we take one normal day, photograph the bejesus out of it, then post our 10 favourite photos from that day on the tenth of the month. We all link to someone else in the circle so you can hop along and see what other people have come up with for their 10 on 10. Following? Picking up what I’m putting down? Catching what I’m throwing?
So, for once, I’ll shut up (sort of. Captions don’t count) and show you a day in my life….
It’s 6am. My eyes are seriously pissed off to even be open so I’ve got that scratchy eyeball thing going on. I can not face the real world just yet, so this little person has been dragged into my bed for some cuddles.

baby toes make early mornings worth it
Isn’t it THE BEST when kids try to break into your shower? I REALLY LOVE IT. It’s a super fun game we play every single morning.

Yes, I took my camera into the shower. I really needed to show you this. You’re welcome.
Off to the park with the most awesome group of mums in the world. My mums group rocks. Seriously. I got a great one.
I heart them HARD.

Yes, I’ve told him a hundred times you start at the top. He cares not for rules and convention.
Naptime. The time of the Gods. The pure and lovely. The blissful and merry.
Ha! Lies.
I still don’t know why I love nap time so much, because it’s a time-suck of house work, paid work and silent, lonely lunch eating without the possibility of leaving the house.

But it’s quiet. And this….
In the middle of the cleaning, I bake a cake. Because it’s a hundred degrees outside and I’ve got a million things to do, but I needed banana cake. It was important.

Found this recipe (click on pic) and nailed it. It’s a monster though. Still eating it four days later.
Canberra feels like the surface of the sun today. Yes, people, Canberra gets hot. You’ve heard about the winters. For some reason, Australians think Canberra is the coldest place on earth, even though we don’t even get snow.
You know places like Colorado would laugh at our winters. It gets to minus 30 degrees there. MINUS 30 DEGREES. Your snot would snap your nose right off your face in that climate.
So yes it gets mildly frosty in Winter, but then baking hot in Summer. Weeks on end of 35 plus degrees. It’s torture. It has actually been a pretty mild Summer this year, which I’m ecstatic about, but today is heading towards the high 30s and we need to be cool.

My boys at Kambah Rock Pools
Good God there are about a hundred reasons I shouldn’t have this photo in the mix. Mainly because it’s far more leg than anyone should have to lay eyes on (apologies all round). There’s also the tiny technicality that I didn’t take the photo.
But I like it. I don’t get a lot of photos with my bub (always behind the camera) and we both look really happy. Now and then the husband takes a pretty good shot. Don’t tell him I said that.

Fairly sure part of that rock is now embedded in my arse. Most uncomfortable photo ever.
That’s right. THERMOMIX PARTY. There aint no party like a Thermomix party….
They slipped LSD into my risotto, I swear because I’m dead set considering signing up to be a consultant now.

VOODOO MAGIC
Back home and I’d really rather be sitting on the lounge watching TV and eating banana cake, but it seems the husband has an urge to play ‘The Block’ and stay up all night painting some panelling for a new wall in our house. SO MUCH FUN. (I’m lying).

I have paint on my toes… give me some khakis and call me Scotty Cam.
Meanwhile, your only job, young man, is to stay asleep.

I could honestly stare at this all day. I want to EAT him!
As I mentioned, this is part of a group project I’m doing with a bunch of awesomely talented bloggers. If you want to see someone who can actually take photos, please go and have a look at Makayla Jack’s blog. Makes mine look totally shit, but she’s cool so I forgive her.
And of course, you should come and join the fabulousness that is my Facebook page. Where the party never stops (until it’s about 9pm and I’m ready for bed)

Love looking at your day in photos Lauren. Your shot in the shower made me giggle.
I have missing out syndrome and totally want to be in on the photography circle. Let me in dammit!!
…I mean, lovely photos Lauren!
I love that you took your camera into your shower! And that photo of you and Thud is freaking gorgeous. So much happiness!
Your photos are great!! I especially love the view from the shower, you’ve captured it perfectly. I love this little blogging/photography circle. I’ve had a thermomix for a while, and i just love it! 🙂
I adore this kind of post. I am a total voyeur (in a nice way) and really like to know what other people do with their days.
I am going to join the chorus above about your fabulous legs whether you listen to it or not.
Well now I’m just going to get a big head about it…. They do look deceptively cellulite free in this photo. I will admit that.
(I’m a voyeur too, don’t worry. I waste so much of my life cyber stalking people)
I’ve so enjoyed the photography circle – what a fab idea!! A busy-good day this one. I want your legs. Did I just write that? I did. I think if I had your legs I would just spend all day posting photos of myself in my togs. x
Bahahahaha!! That actually made me laugh out loud.
You know, I actually hate my legs. I never feel comfortable when they’re on show. I feel so awkward and self conscious having this photo on here and thought about taking it down about a dozen times yesterday. But when I read your post last night I decided to keep it up and be proud. I love it because I think we look happy. And I want my son to know that I didn’t just sit back and watch him and his father have an awesome life. I’m in there too!! I’m fun too!!
Thank you SO much for that awesome lesson xxx
Looks like a great day! I mean, shit, you got to take a shower (foot wedged in and all to ward off little person – I know it well) and bake a cake and all! I love that shot of you with the boy with your legs out on show. You both look gorgeous!
Bahahahaaa! Yep I need to wedge my foot in to stop the door swinging in or else he’d walk straight on in.
And thank you! Despite the legs, I like that photo. I think we both look happy and I don’t have a lot of photos with him (I’m always behind the camera) so I get excited when we take a nice one xxx
Eeekkkk… I love reading your words and seeing your images! Storytelling at it’s best! Someone who finds time in their busy day to make banana cake just because would be a real life friend of mine for sure… I heart banana cake more than anything! Kind of envious you have a much fancier looking thermo than me too x
Oh Rowe, banana cake is my fave too!! And this one is so fluffy and creamy and just bloody good.
I don’t have a thermo… yet. But it seems everyone else in the world has one so I’m starting to feel the pressure!
Haha still laughing. You know how to make everything funny!
I love that. Especially the shot in the shower? how is your camera? still ok?
I’ll have to try this recipe very soon… like this week end when i get into the mountains!
xx
cathy
Oh my god that sounds so glamorous Cathy. Baking a banana cake in the mountains in France!!! Le sigh….
And yes, my camera is fine 🙂 That one was just on my phone. It’s a sight I see every single day – those little hands pressed against the shower screen – so I knew I had to get a photo for this project.
Oh gosh, you can make anything hilarious! And your photos are great and definitely not shit. Already can’t wait for next month!
Well I’m definitely going to have to step up my game for next month. Everyone’s photos were amazing! I can’t wait for next month either.
What fun photos Lauren – and a busy day! I was invited to a Thermie party in the weekend and couldn’t go. Kind of glad because I know that voodoo will get me good!
Wasn’t it a fun day doing these photos. I’m a bit sad we have to wait a whole month for the next one!
I didn’t expect it to be this much fun Ellen! I thought I’d be a bit lost without all my words. But it has been great! Especially with the circle hopping!
Holy fuckballs I can’t tell you how shit I feel for missing this month’s 10 on 10! Damn life getting in the way of me photographing life….. Your pics are super cute, never a dull moment in your house lovely!! And omfg that cake. I’m salivating. x
Eating some of that cake right this very minute. It’s AMAZING. Can’t cook. Can bake.
P.S You’re totally dropped from the group. How dare you let your real job get in the way of this? PRIORITIES??
Loving your 10 photos a day! Is this a catchy thing or you need a secret handshake to play?!! Just love it
Definitely require a secret handshake…. But I can teach it to you if you want??
Jesus woman, you fit a lot into one day! I am tired just looking at all of that. My son is five and will still stand outside the shower if he wants something. I would lock the door but he is a lock smith and just undoes it *sigh* – surely the thought of seeing his mum naked will scare him soon?? x
Fleur I am tired too. CONSTANTLY.
I don’t have a door to my ensuite at all!!! What an idiot I am. When we were building I didn’t think it was necessary because the toilet and shower both have frosted doors and I wanted it all to be so open and airy. Now I’d kill for a door with a big fat dead bolt.
Disturbingly, when I get out of the shower, Thud points and giggles. Already a critic :/
Well we’ll forgive you for putting in the photo hubby took coz you look so damn gorgeous!!!
Love your pics! I am at the stage of parenting where I can shower alone…though the girls try to conduct conversations with me through the door…what the!!
I’m still in love with my thermomix and it’s been 14 months! Don’t know how I lived without sorbet before it!!!
Aww shucks, thank you lovely!
It was the bloody sorbet that hooked me in. The way she made a tub of raw sugar into icing sugar in a few seconds!?!? BLEW MY MIND.
OMG what is it with kids and showers!! My 19 month old insists on climbing IN the toilet when i’m in the shower just to prove she can get me out in 2 seconds flat! My thermomix sat on the bench for 6 months while I resented caving in to the pressure… now I use it a few times a day but I would never admit that to the thermie army. I still pretend I don’t like it!
Bahahahaaa!!! That’s a neat trick!! Check me out mum! I’m in the loo!!!
You’re a wise woman. Don’t show signs of weakness to the thermie army or you’ll be gone forever.
NO ONE…with a baby that young…and eating banana cake …should look that darn good….
Please send banana cake…..*drool*
Hahaha!! I’m fitter than I’ve ever been with all the running around after this firecracker 😉
10 x 10 – what a lovely idea!
And giiiirl, those legs! They go on for miles. I hate you.
Oh what I’d do to be in some sunshine right now. Swap?
You should join up Nat!!! Rowe is coordinating it.
And yeah I have giraffe legs (got them from my mum) but a super short body so it’s all a bit weird and gangly. And my pants are never long enough! #dork
And yes! Swap for sure!!! I love winter. I’m so keen for a trip back to the UK. Love it.
What a great glimpse into a day in your life. Cool idea!
Thanks Kez!! xxx
The shower shot is class! I really hope you get a Thermomix because then you will enjoy making twice the amount of banana cakes (or cocktails, if you prefer) in half the time!
Jesus Sam, I think you just sold me on the thermomix all over again. Double the banana cake and double the cocktails?? You’re speaking my language.
Great post and photos Lauren – you had me in giggles a few times! And laughed out loud to your comment of the rock embedded in your arse! Ha! 🙂
Oh Lauren! What”s not to love here….. your funny take on life is so refreshing! THANK YOU!
PS> Buy the Thermomix – you won’t regret it!!
Hey! For a writer you take a pretty good photo!! 😉 And the thermomix – really? So much mixed feedback, I want one, I don’t want one….!!!!
I was SO anti the thermomix. I have a Kitchen Aid which is actually good looking, so why would I put that ugly thing on my bench?? But then they started showing me what it could do and I was bewitched… It’s black magic I tell you…
I know all about that black magic – I’m soooo tempted!!!
Ha! Great day and my god I can relate to your shower situation… I have two of them on the other side. Great photos Lauren. Jx
My son seems to prefer the “I must go to the toilet with my mum or die a painful death” game EVERY single time.
I can not tell you how many times I’ve gone to the loo with him on my lap. No one explained to me that when I gave birth, I would say good bye to any dignity or privacy I had in my life.
Oh yeah….*old lady raspy giggle*
Lauren, You’ll get some privacy back when they are toilet trained! We have a privacy please rule in our house and it works!
Counting the days…
Thanks for sharing your day! Just a suggestion next time you make that cake, you invite us round… I’d like a piece right now! x
Come on over! Still have half of it left. It’s massive.
