Mothers are experiencing perfection pressure more than ever before.
Not only do we need to raise flawless children, we need to manage a successful career, but also somehow be with our children every waking hour (and give them our full attention, not just throw them a packet of biscuits and let them run wild while you work from home), and on top of this we are expected to craft the days away, making gorgeous things we can then photograph and plaster across social media to prove we are BETTER THAN EVERYONE.
Never before has there been SO MUCH PRESSURE to be the perfect 1950s housewife. Not even in the 50s. I’m pretty sure the women of that era would look at Pinterest and say “fuck that for a joke, someone make me a martini.”
Fuck you Pinterest. Fuck you and your gorgeous photos and your black hole of internet tutorials…. There’s an epidemic of “Pin now read later” posts where women are frantically pinning shit they’ll never get around to making but will eventually overwhelm them until they’re a shaking, heaving puddle of disappointment and unfulfilled Pinterest dreams.
I’m sorry Pinterest. I love you. I love the ideas and the optimism and the inspiration. You make me feel like I can do ANYTHING! If only I had an endless supply of mason jars, wooden pallets and wine corks…
Lauren and Pinterest. “It’s complicated”.
If you have endless boards of amazing Pinterest projects you wish you could get around to but will probably never happen until science figures out how to clone people and then you can have three versions of yourself (Seriously though, wouldn’t that be amazing? I need at least another Lauren in this house. Preferably two) then I am here to help.
Every week, I’ll tackle a Pinterest project on your behalf. I’ll let you know exactly how long it took me (no bullshit), how much it cost and how crafty you need to be. I’ll break it down for you step by step and I’ll tell you honestly whether you should bother giving it a go. I’ll let you know if a normal human being can succeed or if it’s a trick designed to Pinterest FAIL.
If you have a Pinterest project you’d like to try, but don’t know whether you could be bothered, let me know and I’ll try it out for you! If you find something completely ridiculous and think no one would ever try it, let me know and I’ll do it! If you see a project that doesn’t quite make sense or the instructions are a bit dodgy, send it my way and I’ll figure it out for you. Pinterest challenge accepted!!
You can follow me on Pinterest here: Lauren @ The Thud
If you find a project you want me to try out, you can comment below, you can send me the pin on Pinterest, or you can tag me in the comments of the pin.
Stay tuned….. the first challenge I’m working on is a Pinterest Advent Calendar inspired by these two:

Wow.. You are so brave!! Xx
This one keeps haunting me – surely I would only have to stay up all night for 3-4 days…..http://cookcleancraft.com/2009/01/tutorial-felt-car-play-mathouse/
OH MY GOD. That is EPIC! I might have to tackle it. If only I could find eleventy billion sheets of green felt….
[…] for my first Pinterest challenge, I wanted to do an advent calendar that everyone could do, and that kids would actually […]
Bahaha! I can’t wait to see what what Pinterest fails unfold. Go you! I do fear Michelle is going to give you the most epic challenge!! Lol
Ha ha! Its funny ‘cos it’s true! I am looking at those gorgeous advent calanders and already feel worried for you. So much work. So little time. So very worth it… but then next year… they WILL WANT it again next year! I think that anyone that got married or had their babies before pinterest should get a free re-do! JTxo
Oh my god, I agree!! I SO want to do my wedding again! I just had to come up with all my own crappy ideas. Is it weird to plan a whole wedding again once you’re already married? I just think I could do it so much better this time….
I have a deep affection for Pinterest. I look pretty freaking cool on Pinterest, in my opinion. 😉
Just checked out my Make It board for something for you but the bar isn’t set very high as if I am going to attempt it it has to be easy. Like 3 step easy.
Love it! My relationship with Pinterest is definitely “window shopping until things turn desperate”. Like that day I NEEDED to know how to install a block out blind. Love Hate!
See, there’s NOTHING you can’t learn online. Thank you Pinterest!
Sure I will find a Pinterest challenge for you to make bahahahahaha
Why do I feel nervous? #evillaugh
Good. Love the calendar. And i agree about everything. I have a full bag of material for bracelet to be done. It s here just next to me. ..Since June! !!!

My whole house is full of craft supplies for projects I “plan” on doing!! Some have been waiting for years!
Haha I love the idea of you doing all the hard work for me so I don’t have to figure it out! Brilliant.
I am a Pinterest fiend, but I keep it simple so I don’t freak out haha.
And I love the idea of cloning yourself. I need one of me specifically so she can always be hunting down cooking and crafting supplies while I just get on with real life!
Exactly! I think I’d like my clone to do all the research for me. I’ve wasted years on the Internet. And then she could run all my errands and I could just get on with the proper work.
Love this idea! Will be cheering you on eagerly from the sidelines. And possibly smirking. Lots of smirking. LOL.
I fear I will give you reason to smirk. Lots of reasons.
