It’s so fun when a sad, bored man wades into the sea of mummy blogs and starts splashing around.
When that sad, bored man is ex-Labor leader and Australia’s most perfect father, Mark Latham, it’s like all my birthdays come at once.
Thank you Mark Latham for all the joy and laughter you bring to the party. Your insight and keen analysis of what’s wrong with today’s mums is so refreshing and helpful.
When Mark… wait, we should probably call him “Superdad” because that’s what he calls himself…..when Superdad shared his opinions about lazy, inner-city mums relying on antidepressants to get through the day, it was eye-opening.
We learnt how the mums of Sydney’s inner-city HATE their children and pop pills like complete cowards to escape the torture of their unwanted spawn. We discovered that, by comparison, the mums out in the West are DELIRIOUS with happiness and completely free of stress while they raise their darling children with the joy and dedication that is so becoming in women. Because nobody in the Western Suburbs suffers from depression. It’s a fact. And if they did, they wouldn’t be taking “the easy way out” by taking medication.
Mark Latham has been a stay-at-home father (superdad) since retiring from politics in 2005. And oh how wonderful he is at it. He potters around in his magnificent native garden by day and bakes gourmet meals by night. He prides himself on “preserving time” to love his children and dedicates himself to their studies. I bet he has THE BEST Pinterest boards.
Oh how I wish I was Superdad.
Luckily, Superdad has shared his expertise one more time.
This time, the man who might’ve been our Prime Minister (I like to call him The Bullet Australia Dodged) has taken aim at the scourge of the nation – mummy bloggers – and has given tips on how to deal with their radical left-feminist agenda.
Firstly, Superdad is très perturbed with the maniacal way these blogmonsters are raising children to believe in gender equality (FREAKS!). They’re suggesting we raise little girls to value themselves for more than their looks. Wha? Confused face…. These lunatics are suggesting we don’t comment on a little girl’s physical appearance every time we speak to them. But…. but…. what do I say to a little girl if I don’t call her a ‘pretty pretty princess’? Superdad says this means we should call all little girls “ugly”. Excellent advice SD.
SD worries that part of this left-feminist mummy blogging agenda is to encourage dads to be equally involved with their kids. What lark is this!? He warns that this means women will be shirking all responsibility and letting their children run wild and shirtless down the streets, while binge eating pizza… yeah, I can’t really follow Super D’s logic here either. But it sounds TOTALLY reasonable and incredibly alarming. Better do something about these rogue women before they take over!
Superdad, it is such a pleasure to hear your expert opinion on all matters of motherhood. You’re a stay-at-home dad who seems to love raising your children which is wonderful. So, clearly, you know exactly what it’s like for every single mother in the country.
Just like I know EXACTLY what it’s like to be a much loathed and ridiculed ex-politican because I’ve been a political journalist. Same same, right?
I’ll just let you in on one little secret Superdad – there are an awful lot of mummy bloggers. Many many more than ex-politicians turned stay-at-home-dads with an inexplicable gig as a columnist for a formerly well respected newspaper.
What I’m saying is – YOU’RE OUTNUMBERED Mr Latham. Well and truly. I’m not sure why you want to start this war, but it’s certainly a war you can’t win.
My advice to you is this… go and bake something healthy for your children. Go and pick some wattle from your garden. Sit down and help your daughter with her maths homework. Enjoy your children.
But please stop writing. It’s not your strength.
Please sign this Change.org petition to ask the Australian Financial Review to stop publishing the vile and abusive ramblings of Mark Latham. His continued attacks on female journalists, and mothers in general, are defamatory, offensive and cruel. It is incredibly disappointing to see a respected publication like the AFR sink to the level of trash media as it publishes sensational and inflammatory opinion pieces just to drive internet traffic to its site.

The best comment I have heard about this was from Em Rusciano – “clusterfuck of arsehattery”. Mark Latham is a giant douchebag, writing in a sector where women are already disadvantaged. Well done for helping out there Mark, I’m just SO pleased that you spend your spare time reading blogs written by mothers. In between tending to a garden and stuff. Sounds perfect really.
One of the problems is that the Fin Rev will keep publishing this crap as long as people click on links, even in anger at the subject, because even fury sells. Hopefully we’ll have better luck with the Change petition, because surely he doesn’t have anyone else left to attack.
I’m not sure I’d call it a clusterfuck because that suggests it was a mistake or unplanned in some way. This wasn’t a mistake. He went out of his way to be cruel and offensive.
I did think twice about posting this because I didn’t want to draw any more attention to him and his vile opinions, but hopefully if we generate enough outrage the AFR will be forced to shut him down. I find it repulsive that they’ve given him multiple chances to spew hate towards women. They may be getting lots of clicks, but that’s short term gain for long term damage to their reputation and a steep decline in female readership. Morons. All of them.
Can ABC radio call you up again? This would be a great topic to tell SD to shut his mouth and to stop looking himself in the evil queen’s mirror!
Ha! I don’t think what I have to say would be suitable for ABC radio. They’d have to bleep me an awful lot!
A drama queen in his own right. Can AFR stop publishing his pathetic views please! Even though women are now realising he is not worthy of an argument.
Signed!
Who is Mark Latham again? As I sit in pathology for the next two hours taking another glucose challenge for baby no:3 I’m about ready to stab him.
Mark Latham is a fuckwit. He was a fuckwit when he ran for Prime Minister against John Howard back in 2004 and he is a fuckwit today. If you are feeling stabby, it’s best not to read anything he’s written. It will send your blood pressure through the roof.
It’s all baiting garble, isn’t it? You know I hadn’t even read the piece until you linked it here. Because. Latham. I wonder if his wife is face-palming right now? Or maybe she’s a in a coma of gourmet foods and cuddles.
This is what blows my mind…. his opinions of working women… of which his wife is one. It’s just bizarre. He’s completely delusional and evidently chauvinistic. I hope his wife is incredibly embarrassed.
Best response to this clusterfuck ever.
He’s a delusional lunatic. I think growing up with Mark Latham as opposition leader is the reason so many young people are liberals.
He certainly makes me breathe a sigh of relief that Howard won. Can you imagine if he’d been our Prime Minister? The shame we would all feel. And people call Abbott a misogynist!
I can’t wait to see what utter nonsense he comes up with next, and that means I am part of the problem because people like me are the very reason that the Fin Review will be champing at the bit for his next piece of insightful analysis. As a journo yourself, I imagine it would be incredibly disheartening to see what a race to the bottom the media has become, and the people like Latham are given a platform to share this kind of inflammatory garbage.
I could write an essay on how heartbroken I am that a publication of the calibre of the AFR has sunk to the level of publishing this bile. It’s bordering on irresponsible to let him spew his shit about depression and anti-depressants. To give airtime to this creep when there are hundreds of genuine, qualified and very talented journalists searching for work is distressing. Australia is being ripped off. The first article was bad enough, but to give him a second and third shot at mums – that makes it a sustained campaign of abuse. The AFR is allowing a man to bully a section of the community. It’s despicable.
This shits me so much about the Australian media landscape. That qualified, intelligent and experienced journalists (who are accountable to a professional code of ethics) are being pushed aside for media personalities who write content like this. It makes a mockery of the entire industry and treats all of us like lowest common denominator fools.
Yes. Yes. Yes. As the sister of a (talented) journo trying to find his place, I feel the frustration on his behalf.
I can name dozens (only because I don’t know more than that) of Aussie “mummy” bloggers who can write with more clarity, integrity and wit than Latham has demonstrated!
